HSXML Standardization Options

A Summary of Known Standardization Options for HSXML.

ISO (International Standards Organization): ISO Standards Formulation Process A large non-governmental standards setting body recognized by ANSI, United Nations, among others.  A technical committee creates a standard within the ISO process.

ANSI (American National Standards Organization): Home Page A "meta" standards organization, that doesn't actually directly create standards, but coordinates and certifies other standards setting bodies.

NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology): Home Page Federal Agency. Very focused mission: "... advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life." Unlikely, because of this, that we would be a fitting standard for them.

OMG (Object Management Group): Home Page "OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit computer industry consortium. OMG Task Forces develop enterprise integration standards for a wide range of technologies, and an even wider range of industries."  Not likely they would be interested in a Human Services XML standard, as they would be more interested in the underlying architecture of the implementation of the standard, not the real-world standard itself.

OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards):
Home Page Their existing work gives me the impression that OASIS would be a more suited towards standardizing something like XML itself than an actual use of XML, such as HSXML.  That said, they did create the Open Document Format (ODF), which is an XML-based format, much like HSXML would be.  A possibility, but it's likely we're too high-level for their mission.

De-facto standard: Human Resources XML has created an international vendor supported standard without support from a standards body.
